Diversity of non-marine gastropods of the Fiocruz Atlantic Forest Biological Station and adjacents urban areas, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil

Our main objective was to perform a preliminary survey of the non-marine gastropods at Estação Biológica Fiocruz Mata Atlântica (EFMA) and its adjacent urban areas, also considering samples from other localities Parque Estadual da Pedra Branca received as donation, in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. Infection by larval helminths medical veterinary importance investigated 348 specimens five freshwater species two terrestrial Achatina fulica. In all, 584 molluscs 34 collection sites were obtained. They represented 31 classified 16 families. Fifteen exclusive EFMA area. area mainly exotic and/or synanthropic found. Some them found forest border well. The Biomphalaria tenagophila, an intermediate host trematode that causes schistosomiasis mansoni, parasitized Xiphidiocercarie cercariae Afro-asiatic Melanoides tuberculata Pleurolophocercus cercaria. finding endemic species, including transmitters parasites, demonstrate fast surveys such present study. However, great diversity relatively small part EFMA, we highlight necessity further additional studies.
